Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 at 10:59am. 8749 Views, 0 Comments.

Better Homes and Garden cover September 1954In 1956 Glenbrook Valley was just hitting its stride. The Parade of Homes had singled out the residential area, exclusively featuring Glenbrook Valley for all 30 homes on their annual tour. The development had previously been included in a citywide Parade of Homes in 1954, but not for the entire event.

Nestled along Sims Bayou between I45 and Telephone Rd., Glenbrook Valley originally opened in 1953 with a lot of fanfare.  It was designed by the renowned Kansas City landscape architecture firm Hare and Hare, which was known for many Houston layouts, including River Oaks. The subdivision also received a lot of interest when Better Homes and Gardens featured 7923 Glenview on the September 1954 cover for an article titled “The Home for All America” and was the…

Mountain Home Ski Vacation RentalsWith the state of the current housing market, it may prove to be a good investment to keep your current house rather than selling it when you buy the next one. A second home can be a source of revenue if you are smart about how you manage it.

If your current house has a mortgage, you can rent it out to continue paying the mortgage, build equity, and eventually pay it off. Once paid off, it can become a great source of monthly income, netting positive cash flow after the typical expenses of maintainence, insurance and taxes.

If your second home is a vacation house, short-term rentals are a good way to generate income. Vacation homes can make good money being rented during peak seasons, especially if it is located in a desirable destination such as the beach…

Reality Real Estate TVDo doctors watch Trauma: Life in the ER after doctoring all day?

That's what Realtor Chris Hiller wanted to know when I asked him about the reality of real-estate reality shows.

Good point, Chris, but just answer the question, will ya?

Turns out he's seen a few, and he actually quite likes Property Virgins.

"I think that show helps our industry quite a bit," Hiller said. "It's very realistic about setting expectations for a first-time homebuyer, what is a reasonable offer, and getting the buyer to see that the seller also has a say in what happens."

On the show, first-time homebuyers are sent in to a variety of houses with a TV camera but without a realtor, in an attempt to capture first reactions and initial observations without any influence from a pro.
