Living in Bunker Hill
If you’re looking to live well in Houston, Bunker Hill is a great place to do it, as the town was named one of the “Top Suburbs to Live Well In” in Houston by Forbes.com. Many of Bunker Hill’s 1307 homes are set in wooded, park-like settings with plenty of acreage, and home styles range from ranch-style and colonial to modern and contemporary. Bunker Hill is seeing an increase of new luxury homes being built, with most prices ranging in the millions.
While you won’t find many employers in Bunker Hill’s mainly residential city limits, business is not far from its doors. The nearby Galleria area, while often thought of for shopping, also has a bustling business district with many finance, energy and IT companies calling it home. And, with downtown Houston just 9.2 miles away, it means Bunker Hill residents have very reasonable commutes, with many driving an average of 10 to 20 minutes to work.
Things to Do
As with major employers, much of the recreation for Bunker Village can be found nearby - but outside the village limits. Bookworms can get their fill at the Spring Branch Memorial Branch Library, located “next door” in Hedwig Village. The nearby Memorial City Mall offers a variety of department stores to choose from, and a few minutes down the freeway the Houston Galleria, with its high-end stores, ice skating rink and water fountains, is an experience in itself. For those looking to get outdoors, the Houston Country Club is close by and offers family-oriented social and recreational activities. A bit further down I-10, Memorial Park offers beautiful green spaces in the heart of town, with a golf course and six miles of hike and bike trails running along Buffalo Bayou.
Bunker Hill Schools
Bunker Hill Village is served by the highly-rated Spring Branch Independent School District. There are two elementary schools within the city limits - Frostwood and Bunker Hill - while a small portion of town is served by Memorial Drive Elementary school in Piney Point. There are two middle schools for Bunker Hill - Memorial and Spring Branch - with all students zoned for Memorial High School. Out of the six public schools serving Bunker Hill, three were honored in Texas Monthly magazine’s annual list of the Best Public Schools in Texas.
Private schools are plentiful in the area as well, including the Kincaid School (pre-K-12), Holy Spirit Episcopal School (pre-K-8), and Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart (pre-K-12), among others. There’s no reason not to get a great education when living in Bunker Hill!
Bunker Hill Village is located in a truly unique area, a heavily wooded landscape in the heart of urban Houston. As Houston continues to grow, the environment in the Memorial Villages will become even more in demand. With its peaceful, majestic trees and close access to the hustle and bustle of downtown Houston, Bunker Hill truly is a special place to live.
