Loated in Liberty County, Cleveland lies 45 miles north of Houston on U.S. Highway 59. Centered among mixed pine and hardwood forests and surrounded by the East Fork and San Jacinto Rivers, Cleveland is a cozy community, with a land mass of 4.81 square miles and just under 8,000 residents.
Living in Cleveland
Cleveland offers residents a chance to live in a country atmosphere, while still being close enough for city conveniences. While there are a few subdivisions in Cleveland, most homes are in a rural or semi-rural setting with some surrounding acreage, anywhere from a quarter of an acre up to 100 acres. Most homes are traditional or ranch-style, with some newer, larger custom homes built recently. Homes tend to be moderately sized, with even the largest rarely having more than four bedrooms. Out here, it’s more about the land - and with all of the pine trees and lush forests, it’s easy to see why.
Things To Do
With Cleveland’s beautiful surroundings, it’s not surprising the most common recreational activities involve getting outside! Cleveland has three city parks with amenities such as playgrounds, picnic tables, basketball and sand volleyball courts, and covered pavilions, as well as a community swimming pool. The Sam Houston National Forest borders the town, and visitors can enjoy camping, hiking, bird-watching, even berry-picking among the tall pines. About 35 miles to the east, and bordering the western end of the national forest, is Lake Conroe, a popular recreational destination offering boating, fishing and camping.
Cleveland Schools
Students are served by the Cleveland Independent School District, which has one high school, one junior high and three elementary schools - one of which earned a “recognized” status from the Texas Education Agency. Even in this small town, there’s a private school option, the Heritage Christian Academy, serving grades K-12 with low teacher-student ratios. For those starting a college education, Lone Star College offers associate degrees and certificate programs at nearby locations, including Kingwood and Conroe. And for those willing to make the (scenic) hour-long drive, Sam Houston State University provides a four-year university option for students in this neck of the woods.
The Cleveland area is a beautiful environment where one can find most everything they need to live a good life. With a thriving economy, great schools, churches, recreation and friendly people, Cleveland is truly what a hometown should be.
