According to a recent report from The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the state's job sector recorded a significant improvement in terms of adding positions during June.
After losing 600 jobs during May, the state's workforce rose by 30,100 positions, bringing the total to 10.55 million in June. Despite the increased number of positions, the state's unemployment rate grew to 8.2 percent from 8 percent in May. This level is still well below the national average of 9.2 percent in June, however.
Housing starts in Texas also improved during the month, with 31.9 percent more properties breaking ground from the previous month. Housing starts fell sharply in May, declining by 18.8 percent. However, June starts were up 14 percent from the previous year.
The number of single-family housing permits issued in the state during June fell, declining 2.9 percent from May and 2 percent from the previous year. Existing-home sales were up, though, rising 3.7 percent from May to June. Despite these sales, the state's inventory stayed at 7.9 months.
In Houston, real estate figures improved during June, according to a report from the Houston Association of Realtors. Home sales, as well as the average and median prices, showed gains during the month.
